INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK OF ACTS

The Author, the Reader, the Purpose and Theme [Acts 1:1-5]

The books of Acts and Luke are believed to have been written by one person. Scholars accept that Acts was written by Luke the physician. [Col. 4:14].

Acts 1:1 and Luke 1:3 show the books were written to Theophilus which means “lover” or “friend of God.”Acts was meant for all Christians at that time though Theophilus was the primary addressee. In those days todedicate literary works to people was an honor to that person, but the work was meant to be read  by others as well.
